  The Larimore Dam Recreation Area and Myra Arboretum is located just off US Highway 2 along County road 4A  on the western edge of Grand Forks County.   Construction on the Larimore Dam Recreation Area and the Myra Arboretum began in June of 1977 and was completed November of 1979.  Three hundred thirty-three, seven hundred fort-nine (333,749) cubic yards of fill were used in the construction.  The height of the dam is 66 feet, with 72 acres of pool surface. Pool storage is  823 acre-feet with additional flood storage of 4,911 acre-feet.  The drainage area covers 43 square miles.  The project was built by the Grand Forks County Water Resource Board, Soil Conservation Service, and the USDA.  It is also referred to as Upper Turtle River Watershed Project, Larimore Dam--Structure 9.



Larimore Dam Recreation Area and Campground features include:

  • Swimming Beach

  • Boat Ramp  The 72 acre pool is ideal for a leisurely canoe or paddle boat ride.  No gasoline powered boats are allowed keeping the pool clear of pollutants.

  • Picnic areas are located throughout the area.  Please call ahead to reserve one of  two covered picnic areas for your special occasions.  These areas are great for family reunions, weddings, and any outdoor gatherings.

  • Fishing is good year round.  During the winter anglers take to the ice, creating a village of fish houses.

  • Other facilities include a Softball diamond, Volleyball nets, playgrounds, and hiking trails, both  paved and rustic.

  • The Camping area includes 144 overnight camp sites, complete with water and electric hookups and 84 sites have sewer hookups. Comfort stations with showers and flush toilets are also part of the campground facilities.  At the main office you can connect to high speed internet.

  • Don't forget to view the 500 varieties of trees and shrubs by strolling through the Maya Arboretum.

  • There are 3 1/2 miles of paved bike trails connecting the recreation area with the City of Larimore, ND.  Adjacent to the Larimore Dam Recreation Area is the Larimore Golf Course.  The course features 9-holes of challenging golf with plenty of water hazards as you zigzag your way across the Turtle River just downstream from the Larimore Dam.
