Spyware / adware Removal Programs
Both of the following programs have update links that can check for program updates and download them to your computer. After you run the program for the first time, it's a good idea to run the program at lease once a month, making sure to update the detection files.
Ad-Aware SE Personal
Ad-Aware SE Personal is designed to provide advanced protection from known Data-mining, aggressive advertising, Parasites, Scumware, selected traditional Trojans, Dialers, Malware, Browser hijackers, and tracking components. Spybot Search & Destroy
Spybot - Search & Destroy can detect and remove spyware of different kinds from your computer. Spyware is a relatively new kind of threat that common anti-virus applications do not yet cover. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you didn't intentionally install, if your browser crashes, or if you browser start page has changed without your knowing, you most probably have spyware. But even if you don't see anything, you may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging that is silently tracking your surfing behavior to create a marketing profile of you that will be sold to advertisement companies.

Many of the spyware removal programs out there have spyware of their own that they install. The above two programs have been proven to be spyware free. They are both equal in the spyware that they remove. Ad-Aware SE Personal is a little easier to use and a lot more forgiving, Spybot Search & Destroy is geared more toward the more experienced computer person and can get you into trouble if you're not sure how to use it.

It also wouldn't hurt to update
your Symantec Antivirus client. The virus definitions are updated for county
employee workstations automatically through our server. The
current virus definitions will be updated on Monday's so that county employees can update their Symantec
Antivirus Clients on a more regular basis. To check the date of your virus definition file, right click the
icon beside the taskbar clock and choose Open Symantec Antivirus. In the window
that appears look for Virus Definition File at the bottom. If the date in the
window is older than the one below, left click the Current
Definition link below, click run, click run again, click yes,
click OK and you're done.
